IMP-16 — Referenced-Figure Pages + Relationship Map (~16 people) — Design
Status: Approved 2026-07-01
Source item: IMP-16 (work/IMPROVEMENTS.md) — the missing heart of IMP-9: people referenced within the works.
Branch: pluck/imp-16-referenced-people-relationships
Goal
Create entity-person pages for the notable figures mentioned within the
corpus's books and articles (beyond the 61 existing people), with a structured
relationship type, so the pages form a navigable map of Fuller's
relationships to other notable people.
Context
- Reuses the person-entity model (
docs/superpowers/specs/2026-07-01-person-entity-pages-design.md). - No seed collection. These figures are discovered by mining name mentions
acrossraw/repos,raw/articles, andwiki/topics, ranked by mention count
(scan already run), and deduped against the 61 existing people (all candidates
below are confirmed new). - Adds the "mapping" payoff: a controlled
relationship:field + a graph
centered on ther-buckminster-fullernode.
Architecture
Person pages (category: topic, entity-person) with a new controlled
relationship: frontmatter field and a mirrored relationship-<type> tag.
Each page links to r-buckminster-fuller (to center the relationship graph) and
bidirectionally to the works where the figure appears. Registered in the unified
fuller-people.md.
Components
1. The batch (~16, from the mention scan; validate at write time)
| Figure | slug | mentions | relationship | source anchor |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Albert Einstein | albert-einstein | 21 | influence-on-fuller | ../../raw/repos/nine-chains-to-the-moon.md |
| Anne Hewlett Fuller | anne-hewlett-fuller | 12 | family | compiled-from: conversation |
| Lloyd Kahn | lloyd-kahn | 11 | contemporary | ../../raw/repos/dome-cookbook-of-geodesic-geometry.md |
| Isamu Noguchi | isamu-noguchi | 11 | friend | ../../raw/repos/we-are-all-astronauts.md |
| John Cage | john-cage | 11 | contemporary | ../../raw/repos/the-experimenters.md |
| Josef Albers | josef-albers | 10 | contemporary | ../../raw/repos/the-experimenters.md |
| Marshall McLuhan | marshall-mcluhan | 9 | influence-on-fuller | ../../raw/repos/i-seem-to-be-a-verb.md |
| Frank Lloyd Wright | frank-lloyd-wright | 9 | contemporary | compiled-from: conversation |
| Le Corbusier | le-corbusier | 8 | contemporary | compiled-from: conversation |
| Norbert Wiener | norbert-wiener | 6 | influence-on-fuller | compiled-from: conversation |
| Margaret Fuller | margaret-fuller | 6 | family | compiled-from: conversation |
| John McHale | john-mchale | 5 | collaborator | ../../raw/repos/world-design-science-decade-document-1.md |
| Merce Cunningham | merce-cunningham | 5 | contemporary | ../../raw/repos/the-experimenters.md |
| Thomas Edison | thomas-edison | 5 | forebear | compiled-from: conversation |
| Henry Ford | henry-ford | 5 | forebear | compiled-from: conversation |
| Leonardo da Vinci | leonardo-da-vinci | 5 | forebear | compiled-from: conversation |
Target ~14–16; drop or swap any figure whose corpus mentions prove too thin
to ground a page, and note it.
2. relationship: controlled vocabulary
The figure's primary relation to Fuller (one value per page; nuance in prose):
collaborator · influence-on-fuller · influenced-by-fuller · friend ·
family · contemporary · rival-critic · forebear · chronicler
(documented / wrote about Fuller; added in IMP-18)
3. Page model
Frontmatter: title, category: topic, created/updated/verified: 2026-07-01,
confidence, volatility: cold, aliases, summary; relationship: <type>;
sources: (a resolvable raw pointer) or compiled-from: conversation;
tags = entity-person + relationship-<type> + about-buckminster-fuller
(family/collaborators/close figures) or fuller-adjacent + 1–3 topic tags.
Body: # <Name> + one-line identity; a short reworded description; ## Relationship to Fuller (the explicit relationship narrative — e.g. Einstein's never-confirmed
endorsement of Nine Chains; Noguchi's lifelong friendship and the chrome bust;
McHale's World Design Science Decade co-authorship); ## See Also (bidirectional
to the works where they appear and to r-buckminster-fuller, plus related
people); ## Sources.
4. Bidirectional links + registry
## See Alsoholds only figure↔work and figure↔person links, each of which
gets its reciprocal (work→figure, person→figure). Lint requires See Also links
to be bidirectional, so the Fuller hub is not linked in See Also (that would
demand a reciprocal fromr-buckminster-fuller, bloating that hub across every
figure).- The graph is centered on Fuller two ways instead: the structured
relationship: <type>field, and a prose link tor-buckminster-fullerin
the## Relationship to Fullersection (a body link, not a See Also peer, so no
reciprocal is required). This keeps the relationship map Fuller-centric while
keeping See Also reciprocity clean. - Add the ~16 to
fuller-people.md(unified registry), alphabetical. - Update
wiki/topics/_index.md, master.wiki/_index.mdarticle count
(+~16 → ~208) and Recent Changes,log.md.
5. Verify
/wiki:lint --local-equivalent: 0 broken links, ## See Also bidirectional
(figure↔work, figure↔person), sources: resolve or compiled-from: conversation,
every relationship: value in the controlled set, indexes/counts consistent.
Deferred (later, re-filed in housekeeping)
- The long tail of lesser-mentioned figures (Sontag, Warhol, Rauschenberg,
Gropius, Duchamp, Tesla, Salk, Whitehead, Kepler, Russell, Chomsky, …). - Backfilling
relationship:onto the existing 61 person pages so the entire
people graph is relationship-typed.
Testing / verification
Content task, no unit tests. Success = ~14–16 referenced-figure pages, each with
a valid relationship: type, a "Relationship to Fuller" section, bidirectional
figure↔work links, a body link to Fuller, registry + indexes updated, lint-clean.
