Provenance:
Fuller deposited his papers at SIU Morris Library beginning in 1960, during his tenure as a research professor at Southern Illinois University. The collection was transferred to Stanford in 1999.

Southern Illinois University (SIU Carbondale)

SIU retained materials distinct from the Stanford transfer, organized in 5 series:

  1. Published Writings
  2. 3D Models (physical architectural and design models -- unique to SIU, not duplicated at Stanford)
  3. Media Clippings
  4. Documentary Film and Audio
  5. Design 385 Course materials (Fuller's course at SIU)

Unique holdings:

Henry Ford Museum (Dearborn, Michigan)

The Henry Ford Museum holds the only surviving Dymaxion House prototype:

Buckminster Fuller Institute (BFI)

The BFI, founded in 1983 and based at 2261 Market Street #469, San Francisco, CA 94114, functions as a resource hub rather than a primary archive:

Virginia Tech

The Don Fusaro Collection (Ms2023-117) at Virginia Tech holds a small but focused collection:

Estate of R. Buckminster Fuller

The Estate manages rights and serves as a research gateway:

Synchronofile (Private Collection, Portland, Oregon)

Trevor Blake's private collection focuses on printed works by and about Fuller:

Black Mountain College Museum (Asheville, North Carolina)

The museum holds photographic documentation of Fuller's dome experiments at Black Mountain College:

Digital Access

The state of digitization across collections varies significantly:

No single digital platform provides comprehensive remote access to the Fuller papers. Researchers working remotely must coordinate across multiple institutions.
